On NR docs I haven't found that is needed opening outbound any UDP connection in order the NR server can works. Otherwise if I only forward incoming TCP connection on 32976 port from my firewall to server and close all outbound port (with exception of HTTP, HTTPS and DNS) the server can't work and the checkport.php fail. In fact, if I open all UDP port in outbound direction on my firewall, the NeoRouter server works and the chekport.php go to green. I've forwarded the 32976 TCP from router to firewall and then from firewall to internal NeoRouter server but, with my surprise, even if the inbound TCP 32976 connection is allowed I must open even (all) outbound UDP port on firewall from server to internet (on my router all outbounf port are open).

Lastly, you could run a VPN server elsewhere, such as on an inexpensive virtual private server (about $5 a month from the likes of Godaddy), and run a VPN client on your router or a PC at home to connect to this VPN server and bridge the VPN network with your local network.
